Major changes to know:
- Change from 3 years to 5 before a district can grant tenure, and the three most recent year-end evaluations must be "effective" or "highly effective" in order for tenure to be granted.
- Exception: if a probationary teacher receives a "highly effective" rating on the three previous year-end evaluations, tenure may be granted after 4 years.
- Probationary teachers may be fired at any time, but employment shall continue unless written notice is given at least 15 days before year end.
- A probationary teacher may not be displaced by a teacher on continuing tenure simply by merit of that teacher having tenure. *Seniority may only be considered if all other factors are ruled equal.
- First-year teachers and probationary teachers who received "minimally effective" or "ineffective" on their most recent year-end evaluations will have mid-year evaluations to determine progress toward IDP goals.
